Titanium Mineral Ore

Vietnam is a nation rich in the potential reserves of titanium minerals, with a total estimated volume of about 650 million tons. Vietnamese Titanium-bearing minerals are typically found in coastal sand deposits along the central region from Thanh Hoa to Binh Thuan. Various minerals accumulate within these sand deposits, with quartz sand (SiO2) accounting for 95–99%, and the remaining portion consisting mainly of heavy minerals—including Ilmenite (FeTiO3), Rutile (TiO2), Zircon (ZrSiO4), Leucoxene, Anatase (TiO2) and Monazite (Ce,La,Th)PO4.

After the raw ore is processed, industrial recovery typically focuses on Ilmenite, Rutile, Zircon and Monazite. Among these minerals, Zircon and Monazite contain radioactive elements (U, Th).

In the mining areas of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue provinces, the predominant useful minerals in the ore are: Ilmenite (55%), Rutile (15%), Zircon (13%) and Monazite (0.5%).

Mining Process

We apply hydraulic mining technology in our operations, the basic process of which includes the following steps:

Processing

We extract ore from the upstream source, based on the key mining areas of Le Thuy district, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri. It is then transported downstream to the Titanium-Zircon deep processing facility located in the Hon La Seaport Industrial Zone, Phu Trach commune, Quang Tri province.

At Hoang Long, we strive to add value to our products via a circular economic model.

Processing

From the initial raw ore, different mineral groups—including Ilmenite, Zircon, Rutile, Anatase, Leucoxene, Monazite, Quartz and other impurities—will be separated out. Through the use of advanced technology and equipment, we can maximize the recovery of useful mineral compounds:

Ilmenite is separated from the mixture by a high-intensity wet magnetic separation system (WHIMS).

The intermediate products are dried and further separated out using a combination of magnetic separation, high-intensity electrostatic separation, and gravity separation, based on the different physical characteristics of each mineral stream.

The resulting products are Ilmenite, Rutile, Zircon, and Monazite extracted to meet international standards.

Ilmenite is processed into intermediate products (synthetic rutile or titanium slag), which are raw materials used in the welding electrode and pigment industries.

Zircon is ground into ultra-fine powder, providing materials for advanced ceramics, refractories, abrasives, chemicals, precision casting molds and more.

Processed Ilmenite and zircon products are crucial supplies for high-tech industries within Vietnam and around the world.
